COAT is a British outfit, and yes, the paint is made here in the UK. They're a relatively young brand — founded in 2020 — but they've come out swinging: B Corp certified, water-based formulations, low-VOC, and a tightly edited colour range that punches above its weight.
What I rate about COAT is that they're not trying to be everything to everyone. The range is sharp and modern — strong on neutrals, whites and greens — and the names are unashamedly Millennial (Duvet Day, Park Life, Yard Party). Behind the cheeky branding, though, the product is genuinely good. The matt emulsion has decent coverage and a flat, contemporary finish, and they've leaned into the sustainability angle properly rather than just slapping "eco" on the tin.
In the FiniSpec library we hold 137 COAT colours. The strongest families are neutrals (31), whites (27) and greens (24), with the brand spanning LRV 4.1 right up to 99.3 — so you've got proper inky darks through to near-pure whites.
A few worth a look: COAT::Mindful is a calm, liveable mid-tone that works beautifully in bedrooms and studies. COAT::Duvet Day is a soft warm neutral — exactly the kind of colour people reach for when they want "warm white but not magnolia". And COAT::Park Life brings a fresh, easy green if you want a bit of life without going full forest.
The "but what about" here: is it as durable as the heritage names? For walls in normal rooms, COAT holds up perfectly well. For high-traffic hallways or trim taking a battering, I'd still reach for a Little Greene Intelligent Eggshell or a Benjamin Moore on woodwork — but that's about specialist finishes, not a knock on COAT's quality.
Practical tip: COAT sell large peel-and-stick samples rather than tiny pots, which is genuinely the better way to test. Stick a couple up, live with them across a few days of changing light, and commit once you've seen them properly.
