Benjamin Moore White Dove is a cracking warm white — soft, creamy, never clinical — but you're paying premium money for it. Good news: the match is easy and cheap.
Dulux Clinic White (LRV 86.8) sits at ΔE 0.6 from White Dove. That's well under 1, meaning the difference is imperceptible to the naked eye. Crown Canvas White (LRV 86.1) is also ΔE 0.6 — identically close. Either of these is a proper like-for-like swap, and both come in at a much friendlier price point than Benjamin Moore, with widely available trade and retail finishes.
If you want something a touch closer to a boutique brand without the F&B price tag, COAT's Me Time (LRV 83.7) comes in at ΔE 1 — still very close, and COAT's emulsion is genuinely excellent: low-VOC, dead flat, and self-priming over most surfaces. It's slightly deeper in tone because the LRV is a few points lower, so on a north-facing wall it'll read marginally less bright. Not a problem — just something to know.
The usual "but what about" here: won't a cheaper paint look cheaper on the wall? Not with these. The *colour* is matched almost perfectly; what you're really trading is the brand's particular finish and depth. Benjamin Moore's emulsion has a lovely chalky body, and if that's what you're after specifically, no match-by-colour will replicate the feel exactly. But for most walls, in most rooms, you genuinely won't clock the difference.
Practical advice: don't buy on the strength of a swatch card alone. Get a tester of Clinic White or Canvas White, paint two coats on a bit of lining paper or board, and move it around the room across the day. Warm whites shift hugely with light and with whatever's next to them. Check it against your trim and flooring before you commit to a full tin.
